Understanding the unique space BAGGU holds in the market

Among brands that value sustainability, utility, and fun design, Baboon to the Moon, Béis, Calpak, and Topo Designs offer adventure, organization, trends, and durability. Despite varying loyalty systems, all four prioritize unique styling and community engagement

User interviews

Learning what attracts clients to BAGGU through surveys

I interviewed 30 Baggu customers through an online survey. The questions related to the products they own, and their thoughts on the Baggu community and brand,

User personas

Identify patterns in client perspectives

Based on interview analysis, I identified two major user groups for BAGGU: Trend-driven customers and community driven customers. Trend driven customers follow fashion trends on social media and aim to update thei rpersonal style to express themselves and appear on-trend. Community driven customers like what BAGGU stands for (sustainability, fun and utility) and enjoys meeting others who do as well. Community driven customers often find social media groups or online foums to chat with others about their purchases.

I outlined the core user flow and the user flows for two central processes to give me an understanding of how the user will complete core actions.

I faced some challenges while working with this design system primarily because of the UPPERCASE type interferring with the visual hierarchy

Surveys can be a wealth of information

This was my first time conducting user research on this scale (30 participants), and I found it very rewarding. Customers enjoy giving feedback about brands that excite them. In the future, I would like to ask more questions about brand dissonance and friction because I find this is where the greatest opportunity lies.

This was one of my first ventures into simple motion design (other than creative coding with p5.js) Jitter made it super easy to use scaling, moving and mini animations.

One of my biggest points of friction during this project was implementing and amending the current BAGGU design system, which uses very little color and UPPER CASE type. I began to introduce more type styles to increase visual hierarchy and readability.
